Peter Love Headstone
● The voting of the headstone was tabled pending the second quote to
compare pricing. Horace was able to provide the pricing of a (30x16)
with the cost of 907.00+ tax. The reading on the headstone is to be
Peter Love
Born: August 1844
Died: July 5, 1931
Peter and his brothers, Harry and Berry, were born in a West African
village, forced to America, and sold into slavery, Through slavery then
freedom, they endured, thrived, and built lasting Legacies.
The descendants of Peter, Harry, and Berry Love Give Thanks unto God
with Love and Gratitude. 2025
● A three-month notice is required for the placement of the headstone to
be in place before the ceremony. A 1000.00 has been allotted for the
cost of the headstone. Gail stated that 700.00 was raised to offset the
cost via the popcorn fundraiser.
Meet and Greet Accommodations
● Debra was able to provide pricing on two hotels.
● Option 1. Hilton Garden Inn off Cox Rd in Gastonia. The cost per room
will be appx $163.00 per night. The meet and greet rental room will be
820.00 a catering fee of 275.00 is required for outside catering.
● Option 2. The Courtyard Marriott off Remount Rd. The cost per room will
be appx $123.00 per night. They have suits available at a cost of
169.00. They have meeting rooms that can be rented for 3 hours in the
amount of 500.00 with a 25% service fee appx (668.00). Debera stated
that Stephanie ( Hotel representative) stated that the lobby could be
used, and they could set up a table for the food, eliminating the cost
of renting a meeting space. The reservation time slot for individuals to
book would be in June, and the contract will need to be signed asap to
ensure pricing. The committee requested that Debra request a later
booking timeframe to end in August. Debra will contact Stephanie with
the board's recommendations and follow up with the board on her
findings.
The board agreed to move forward with The Courtyard Marriott to be the
“Meet and Greet” location for the 2025 family reunion. Concrete
information is to follow.
Registration Cost
The committee agreed that the cost for this year’s event would be as
follows:
Early Bird Special if paid by August 1, 2025
Age 0-6 Free
Age 7 and over $15.00 per person
After August 1, 2025
Age 0-6 Free
Age 7 and over 25.00 per person
Charles Wilson made mention of the online credit card company charging 3% per
transaction. The members agreed not to pass that cost on to the family by
increasing the cost of online transactions.
Additional Items
● Charlie Wilson stated that he would be filming and posting the event on
social media (Facebook, YouTube, and the family website).
Conclusion
● Gail McMillian ended the meeting with our why… “We do what we do to
honor our past. We want the younger generation to know where they came
from and to honor their family history. We always want to remember and
love one another.”

Finance Report
● Horace Love informed the committee that the PayPal account has been set
up, and the address is @HoraceLove. The Zelle account has also been set
up, and funds can be sent via his number (704) 460-8824. Horace is to
ensure Charles has this information to share via the website.
● David Patton and Horace Love are to meet this coming week at the bank so
that David can be added as a signee on the Love banking account.
● Per Horace Love, approximately $294.00 remains in the account.
Action
● Fundraising activities such as hotdog sales and online popcorn sales
were discussed to generate more funds.
Hospitality Report
● Debra is working with various individuals on the menu for the Love Day
Celebration. Currently, the menu includes Hotdogs, chips, and sides. The
cost of these expenses will be deducted from the account. The Fish is to
be donated and prepared by David Patton and his crew. The committee has
tentatively planned to feed 150. Debra stated that the committee will be
responsible for all food, and attendees are not required to bring any
items. Attendees are asked to donate.
Action
● Debra will contact the hospitality committee members to verify the menu
and various options.
● Debra stated that On September 20, 2024, the committee will need to
contact the City of Gastonia Recreational Department to reserve the
building at Rankin Lake for the 2025 Reunion year.
Historian Committee Report
● Debra mentioned that she had spoken with Lela concerning the tombstone
for Peter Love. The Army’s tombstone will have Confederate information
on it.
Action
● Horace will reach out to the committee of Trinity AME Church to verify
if the church is in agreement with Confederate info being on the
monument and placed in the church cemetery.
● Horace Love requested for David Patton to reach out to Gary Byrd to
provide information on the look of the Confedrate monument to share with
the Church.
● In the future, the committee will ensure that monuments for the other
brothers are located and placed at their burial spots. The possible
burial site of Berry is on Broad Street, Harry is buried in SC, and
Peter is at Trinity AME Church.
● Debra and Horace are to reach out to Delia to look through Sam(Jarius)
Love's paperwork to see if his paperwork could provide additional
historical information for the family.
● The Historical Committee still requests video interviews of all the
family members 65 and older. The instructions for the videos have been
sent out. Completed videos are to be sent to Charlie Wilson to be posted
on the website.
Technical Committee Report
● Charlie Wilson continues to update the website. He stated that a place
on the website had been left for the past meeting minutes. Charlie has
created a location to house the videos on the website. As soon as they
are sent, he will start posting. He stated that written information on
family members 65 and older can also be posted.
Action
● Vivian Dye will ensure the minutes are sent to Gail and Charlie for
review and posting to the website. She will also post the flyer for Love
Day 2024 on social media.
Committee Action
● Yolanda Grassley and Robin are interested in working with the committee
in the future.
Conclusion
